August 15, 2010 is a very sad day for my family.
My wife's grandmother Jaclynn Meyer passed away. My wonderful mother in law Donna, (whom you all may know simply as Grammy from previous posts) was at her side. First, I must acknowledge that Donna(aka Grammy) was such a great daughter to her mother in her waning years. She was dedicated to her no matter how hard it was.
Man, I get all weird and emotional when people pass away that I care for. I start to think of people even closer to me passing away and I just start freaking out, like I am kind of doing right now. I have become particularly close to my wife's family over the years, as my daughters have, and this really hurts.
Now I want to share my 2 favorite things about Grandma, the 2 things that when I think of her for the remainder of my life, I will always smile.
1) Thanksgiving at Mimi's. It is kind of an inside family story, but it revolves around Grandma's love of dark turkey meat, and Mimi's running out before she got any. And after much discussion with the waitress, her final question to the poor waitress was, "Can you go back in the kitchen and see if they have any dark chicken meat?" Freaking hilarious.
2) I will also always remember the biggest smile my daughter Arabella put on Grandma's face every time she saw her. She glowed, and so did Arabella when they were together.
Since I was a Navy man, the most heartfelt thing I can think of to say is, "Fair winds and following seas Jaclynn Meyer, on this part of your journey."

Poker and Watches!!!
I played poker this past weekend. A real game, medium stakes. I cashed in the tournament and won $100, then I won 250+ in the cash game after. I got real lucky on 1 hand. I had build my cash game chips up to $400. The guy who had the 2nd highest chips had $350. I had pocket KK, I raised it to $20, everyone folds except him who calls. It flops 26Q. He bets out $35, I call. Turn comes 3. He bets $75, I push all in $300 more. He goes into the tank for 5 minutes before folding pocket AA. Wow, I got lucky.
I am a big watch fan. I had been a member of a watch web site for 4-5 months called Watch Talk Forum, where people come to chat about watches. Well, there is a part of the site where people can go to talk about other things than watches. Well the site owner is quite religious and quite easily tolerates anything pro-Christianity, however if you make any comments not %100 excitingly pro-Christianity, he will boot you from the site forever. Well, someone requested quotes about religion by famous people, I simply put Gov. Jesse Venturas quote "Religion is simply a crutch for the weak minded." Bam, I was gone. I even tried to apologise to him but then he sends me this e-mail: "I think you need to take ownership of your responsibility in this matter. if you are going to maintain the position that this is simply a misunderstanding, and not acknowledging incredibly poor judgement on your part, your ban will remain permanent." Now this was after I apologised. I am not groveling to this idiot. I simply became a member of a new and larger web site: www.watchuseek.com. They seem to be a bit more tolerant.
Ok I got a new watch on my radar. It is absolutely stunning. It is a bit pricy, but I am in love.
